The Say No To Malaria Project is a 2-stage project that aims to provide effective malaria control and tackle

relevant health issues in Amechi Uwani. The project creates a sustainable system to promote health

awareness anddeliver appropriate health services.

Goals

The Say No To Malaria Project (SNTMP) in Amechi Uwani aims to save lives and improve rural Nigerians’ hope and health by effectively reducing the burden of Malaria (morbidities and mortalities) in the community.

Background

• The World Health Organization (WHO) malaria reports from 2010-2018 shows a significant overall drop in global malaria incidence and deaths

• The decrease in burden varies in regions around the world, with only about a 22% decrease in Africa, compared to a 70% decrease in Asia. Nigeria is in sub-Sahara, Africa

• The WHO Malaria Report (2018) shows that unlike most other countries of high malaria endemicity that reported decreased in malaria incidence, Nigeria had an absolute increase in malaria incidence 

• Nigeria is the seventh most populous country in the world, and for several years has been the country with the world’s highest malaria incidence and deaths

• 70-80% of the incidence and deaths occur in pregnant women and children less than five years

• An estimated 300,000 children die of malaria each year, and 11% of maternal related mortality is related to malaria
