Nigeria’s maternal mortality rate is high, and most deaths are preventable. Many women in Amechi Uwani do not receive standard antenatal care. They often give birth outside a hospital due to the prohibitive cost of antenatal care and transportation problems.

 These practices lead to complications, including maternal death, fetal/neonatal death, orphaned children, and child/family suffering: intensifying poverty.

OCHF aims to tackle barriers to standard antenatal and hospital delivery care in Amechi Uwani through relevant education and the provision of free, readily accessible women’s health services, antenatal, delivery and post-delivery care.
